Septic tank additives

I’ve known many people with a septic tank in their homes that believe the only thing they have to do is install it and wait a few years until it requires an inspection or maintenance.

That may be quite the reality, but people don’t usually look beyond what they have in front of them. What I’m trying to tell you is that sometimes things could work better if we just give them a little push, and this applies to septic tanks as well.

When you install a septic system on your property, there aren’t many things you can do, just let it work do its job. However, the few things you can do are quite essential and can help a lot its performance. One of them is using and adding septic tank additives to the tank in your property.

How septic tanks work and process your wastewater is effective, but quite slow sometimes. Therefore, you can use additives for two things:

1. Open up clogged drains.
2. Break up grease and oil.

If you improve these two things, you will help your septic tank to treat the wastewater faster. In a few words, it is going to work much better.

Additives aren’t expensive since you don’t have to add them too often and there exist many in the market from where you can choose. Finding the right one isn’t standard for every tank, but most like a preference. Therefore, if you want some advice, ask a professional about which additives he or she recommends for your tank.

Now, even though additives are a good option to improve the performance of your tank and keep it clean, don’t forget that pumping it is important. Using additives can help you to delay the need for this service, but I recommend you to keep performing it every four or five years, no more.

In general, don’t try to replace the maintenance with additives since it will be more expensive long-term and less effective when the tank is getting full.
